Sudan’s Spiritual Life Conference

September 19th, 2009 by Taylor

Allison and I are serving on a small committee of SIM Sudan missionaries who are planning Sudan’s 2010 Spiritual Life Conference to be held this coming January. SIM Sudan is sending out a flyer soon with all the details that I thought I’d share below…

Every January, SIM Sudan holds a Spiritual Life Conference where the entire Sudan team comes together for a time of spiritual renewal for the new year. They also have the opportunity to interface with the newest missionaries and share stories from the field, encourage each other and plan for the coming year.

In the past, we were squeezed for time and forced meetings into the spiritual retreat, as there was no other time for business. However, this year we have extended the time so that the first few days can be completely devoted to team building and spiritual renewal without the disruption of business needs drawing us away. The last few days will be a structured workshop time for new business practices and reminders on how best to work with the Sudanese culture. It will also provide time to plan for each ministry’s upcoming year of work. This time is especially important for new missionaries who have recently come to Sudan.

SIM Sudan is unique in that we have many missionaries from African countries. Some of their financial support comes from outside of their own country. The SLC is an extra expense for them that we would ask you to consider helping cover. Because this year’s SLC is a few days longer, this has also extended the expense to the rest of the team. Would you consider supporting an individual or subsidizing the cost of the entire event so that everyone’s costs can be lowered?

– $50 – pays for one night’s stay
– $300 – covers whole individual
– $600 – covers whole Family
– $2500 – covers 10% reduction of entire SLC
