We had the same experience. I lost about 5 pounds of peanuts to mice once. Shalene would awake to me running around our house in the middle of the night trying to throw anything handy at it. I finally stopped when I threw a boot and it nearly hit my laptop. We started packing mouse traps on every trip.

Seriously don't your guards eat the rats? They are considered a delicacy in West Africa. Our guard in Niger wanted me to pay him for every rat he caught that he would then eat or sell on to others for a nice tidy profit. :-)
