I just found out that starting in June 2009 Delta will be making some serious changes to their Africa flights. You can fly direct Atlanta=>JoBurg and more importantly, you can fly Atlanta=>Dakar=>Nairobi. This will likely be a bit faster than BA via UK. Of course if you’re leaving from Dallas, the BA flight is still probably your best bet, unless you just like flying Delta. Anyways, just one more option to get to Kenya from the States.
Read more about the changes at Delta’s wiki page. Scroll down toward the bottom where the flights are listed to see the details.
We wanted to wish you all a very happy new year! We had a low key celebration welcoming in 2009. We did however have an exciting day as Avery began to walk! Enjoy this video of Avery showing off her new found skill!
Okay, so my title isn’t all that accurate. Today I went shopping with some young veteran missionaries and I picked up a 40 in 1 pack DVD. It cost me 200 shillings, roughly $3. 3 of the films on the DVD have not even been released on DVD yet. This should be interesting as I know a number of them are recorded by people going into theaters and recording with a video camera. I always thought this was just a China thing.
On a related note, you can see movies in the theater in Nairobi for 200 shillings and get a drink and food with it. Paying $10 at NorthPark mall to see a movie really got me turned off going to the theater to see movies.
I’m wippin’ out another quote just for you from the American classic Cheetos.
So on to the real topic at hand. As most of you know we’re in the midst of applying for a VISA to Khartoum (hard ‘k’). In general, westerners are not invited in very often. We have an open door through the church to get us in and we’re hoping that will happen. If it doesn’t then we’ll be off to S. Sudan a little sooner.
On that note, I’ve been told that Khartoum, like the rest of Sudan, is expensive. We’ll be living in dormitory style living with shared bathrooms, etc. A family in a single little room. It’s cool! I can dig it. Now for the expensive part. I was looking around some blogs today and found a guy talking about Khartoum and it’s new hotel. He also included some notes about how much regular goods cost…
Cost of living is really high in Khartoum even though it’s a third world country.
Example (2 Sudanese Pound = US$1.00):-
* five pieces of hot dog bread – US$0.75
* minced beef of 400g – US$3.28
* few small tomatoes – US$1.40
* processed chicken fillets – US$16.00
* two dozens of eggs – US$6.50
I have been quite displeased with the color of links on my site and finally (after over a year) have taken it upon myself to figure out how to do it. I’m no programer by hear, so with a bit of fiddling and Google searching, I found the code that changes it up. Unfortunately it seems that one setting changes everything on the site. I wish I could control the text color in body, comments, sidebar, etc. all separately, but it appears I cannot.
Please let me know what you think of the color I’ve chosen for now. Does it fit with everything else? Does it stand out enough? Does it clash? Thanks for your input!
“It’s pretty much my favorite animal. It’s like a lion and a tiger mixed… bred for its skills in magic.” Yes, that was a quote from a classic film (well maybe not yet, but it will be) called Napoleon Dynamite.
And now for my magic… see the new icons to the right. That’s right, my personal Kenyan Liger did those for me. Now in a most magical way you to can click on them to see the extended creations and communications by yours truly.
