A Sudan teammate has recently run into a very difficult situation. Recently two children under 1 year old have been orphaned in the Yabus village. There is a good chance they would starve to death or die from being left in the elements without intervention. Nearly no one has the ability to take on the responsibility of a young child. This is the reality of the difficult times for Sudanese. Bethany, our teammate, has decided to help out by offering to feed the children once a day with baby formula. The difficulty comes in the fact that these kinds of responses are far outside of the cultural norm and have adverse effects on the community, often beyond anything we can predict at first. Join me in praying for Bethany, that God will grant her the wisdom to handle these opportunities.
It just so happens that all of SIM’s IT guys from all over the world have come to SIM’s international office this week to work together. This typically happens once every 2 years. It’s really been a blessing to be able to pop in and get a good view of what IT really means for SIM and how people are doing it in remote areas. Being a techie, it’s likely I’ll end up taking up some of the IT responsibilities. Most will be fairly basic, but occasionally I’m sure I’ll be asked to do things outside of my current skill set. God grows me.
We were talking this morning about how yet again we see how our ways are not God’s ways. It is been amazing to see how God has blessed us (yet again) through the whole laptop ordeal. Taylor was able to find his beloved messenger bag, that had been discontinued no less, on ebay for a good price! As you can see in the post below the latest Macs will have come out by the time we get the check from our insurance. As you can guess Taylor is very excited and is counting down the days. We visited a local Apple store and talked with the business manager of the store only to find out that he knew some fellow SIMers and was in seminary. He is even planning to work with a missions agency in the future to help involve college students in missions! Only God could have planned all this good from something so disheartening as having our laptops stolen.
If you’re an Apple nut like I am, you’ve been hearing the rumors that Apple is going to release new laptops this coming Tues. Today, it’s official. Apple has sent the media special invites to an event for next Tues. The image below is the simple and fairly obvious (as in what the event is about) event invitation. Normally, this event would not be all that important to me, however, since both of our laptops were stolen just a few weeks back, I’ve been waiting to see if the rumor was true that the new laptops would be unveiled.
Apple invites the media to a special event to show off their newest laptops.
In the way that God works, He has answered the prayer request we communicated a week ago, in a very unexpected way. A Nigerian missionary was ready to come off the field and serve a few months in Kenya during her last few months of her pregnancy. Despite repeated assurances that it would not be an issue, Kenya has not confirmed a visa for her return. The ministry Samaritan’s Purse has offered to take in the Adamu family in their compound they have in Kurmuk, South Sudan. This particular location has facilities for women having difficulty pregnancies. To say the least, the medical personnel knows pregnancies and birth procedures very well. The family is now in capable hands and we thank God for once again answering a prayer, though in a most unusual way.
After a little jousting with USAA, they have decided to pay our full claim for the items (2 laptops and more) that were stolen out of the back of a moving trailer. Thank you all for everyone who sent up a little prayer for us. Now the wait begins for Oct 14th when Apple is rumored to be releasing new laptops.
